OddityRC Vortex F100HV: Separate Motor Power from Peripheral Power

OddityRC Vortex F100HV 12S 100A SINGLE ESC (BLS Bluejay) — product introduction

The Vortex F100HV is a single ESC with 6–12S input, a listed 100A continuous rating and an onboard 12V 2A BEC. OddityRC positions it for applications including fixed-wing aircraft and larger multirotors. It is useful to assess the motor-control requirements and the peripheral supply as two connected but distinct parts of the build.

In this guide: specifications · Start with the motor-control requirement · Budget the 12V rail explicitly · Assess the installed ESC, not just its board · FAQ

Start with the motor-control requirement

The supported protocol depends on the installed firmware. The product lists PWM only for BLS firmware, alongside DShot and other options. Identify the command signal required by the aircraft before choosing or changing firmware, especially when comparing fixed-wing and multirotor installations.

Confirm the selected ECO or WING ECO item and the firmware supplied with it. Keep that information with the working settings so a later repair can return to the same known configuration. Similar-looking ESCs and familiar model labels do not establish identical firmware or connections.

Budget the 12V rail explicitly

A built-in BEC can be useful for a compatible 12V peripheral, but it does not remove the need to total its electrical demand. Check the chosen device’s startup and sustained requirements, the number of attached loads and the wiring arrangement against the listed 2A output capability.

A 12V supply is not a receiver supply by default. Many receivers and sensors require other voltages, so check each peripheral independently. If a project needs several rails, draw them on the wiring plan and label the regulator supplying each one before connecting the battery.

Assess the installed ESC, not just its board

Reserve space for the listed 60 × 43 × 19mm unit, its leads and cooling arrangement. The product gives different weight figures and ECO/WING ECO selections; confirm what applies to the exact option being bought. A quantity choice does not resolve configuration differences.

Compare sustained motor demand with the continuous rating and treat 120A as a peak figure. A large ESC still depends on appropriately rated connectors and leads. For a wider overview of single and 4-in-1 layouts, the Vortex lineup guide is a useful starting point.

Before you choose

  1. Match the installed firmware to the command protocol.
  2. Budget 12V peripheral load separately from motor current.
  3. Check the exact ECO/WING ECO option and installation space.

Frequently asked questions

Which firmware does the current specification identify?

The current product specification identifies BLS/Bluejay. Confirm the selected ECO or WING ECO configuration and its supported command protocol when ordering.

Can the 12V BEC power a 5V-only receiver directly?

No. Supply each device with the voltage it requires, using an appropriate regulated rail.

Does the 120A figure describe continuous use?

The product lists 100A continuous and 120A peak. Use the appropriate rating for the intended operating condition.
